Premium Theme
Blanky
Nordic
A Nordic journal block theme for blogs, in navy and gold. Since version 3.7 it is built around what a blog needs — the newest or pinned post up front, articles beside a sidebar, share buttons and a dark mode — and nothing more.
Features
Everything a blog needs,
nothing it doesn't.
-
A Lead Post
The home page lists every post, newest first, with the first one set large. Mark a post "Sticky" and it takes that place. No setting to find.
-
Two Headers
A masthead with a large wordmark and the navigation between rules, or a compact single line. Select the header in the Site Editor and pick one under Design.
-
Cards or a List
Post lists are a card grid with the category, date, excerpt and author. Switch any list to one post per row, image on the left, from the block's styles.
-
Articles with a Sidebar
A 750px reading column with a lead, the author, date and time to read (WordPress 6.9 and later), then an author box and previous/next links. Search, categories and recent posts sit beside it.
-
Share Buttons
X, Facebook, Hatena Bookmark and Copy link under every article. Plain links: no script from any of these services is loaded.
-
Ad Slot
A pattern for an ad or affiliate code, with a "PR" label already in place so a disclosure is never forgotten. Put it in a post, or in the sidebar for every article.
-
Dark Mode
A toggle in the header switches the whole site to the midnight palette, and the reader's choice is remembered. It is hidden when the site already uses Nordic Midnight.
-
Japanese Typography
A dedicated layer stops faux italics in Japanese headings and adjusts tracking and line spacing for Japanese text. Font families are left untouched.
-
Readable Colours
Text meets WCAG AA contrast in every style variation. Gold is kept for rules and accents, never for text, so the look stays Nordic and the words stay legible.
Design
Every detail,
considered.
Design Tokens
The palette.
Gold on navy — a combination that commands attention without raising its voice. Gold draws the lines; the text stays navy.

FAQ
Questions.
Will my content be affected?
Your posts, pages, and media are completely untouched. Blanky Nordic only changes the visual design — templates, patterns, CSS, and color tokens.
How do I feature a post?
Turn on "Sticky" in the post's settings. On the first page of the blog it moves to the top and is shown large. With no sticky post, the newest post is shown large.
Can I show ads or affiliate links?
Yes. Insert the Ad slot pattern where you want it — in a post, or in the sidebar to show it on every article — and paste your code into it. It carries a "PR" label so readers can tell it is an advertisement.
I'm updating from 3.6. Anything to do?
3.7 rebuilt the theme for blogs, and the 3.6 front page sections (lead hero, magazine hero, updates) are gone. If you edited and saved a template in the Site Editor, open it under Appearance → Editor → Templates and choose Reset from its menu to get the new version.
Can I customize the colors?
Yes. The color palette is defined in theme.json and can be overridden from Appearance → Editor → Styles. No code needed.
How do updates work?
Updates are delivered directly through your WordPress admin dashboard — the same way you update any theme. You'll see a notification when a new version is available.
What fonts does it use?
System fonts only — no external font requests. The sans-serif stack uses each OS's native system font, and the serif stack uses Georgia as the primary font. Fast and private.
How many style variations are included?
Four, switchable from Appearance → Editor → Styles: the default navy and gold, Nordic Midnight (dark), Nordic Ink (cool monochrome), and Nordic Sand (warm paper). Readers can also switch to dark with the toggle in the header.
