Working with WordPress

From a quiet corner of Tokyo, I make WordPress themes and plugins, one careful step at a time. I also contribute to WordPress itself on an ongoing basis, and I am credited as a Core Contributor in 5 releases (6.7 / 6.8 / 6.9 / 7.0 / 7.1). It is not only code: I also contribute patterns to the official directory, help with testing, and translate WordPress into Japanese (Polyglots).

I build themes while watching, from the inside, how WordPress itself is changing. That is why the themes here can keep up with new versions so quickly.

Why I make themes

My first theme, Movaone, came out of frustration: I was tired of themes that all looked and worked the same. After that I went after an easier blogging experience with Easychic, tried my first block theme with Enyoi, and made a portfolio theme with Mobiki.

Then something clicked. Most themes arrive far too finished. You strip things away and fix them before the site finally feels like yours. That felt backwards. Start from a blank page, and add only what you need. That is where the name Blank comes from.

What matters to me

What I care about is the feeling of being "a little better". Rather than grand features, I want to keep making things that leave the people who use them a little better off, with a small sense of ease built in.

I want to keep making things that fit quietly into people's everyday work and make it a little more enjoyable. If you have an idea along the lines of "I wish there was something that did this", I would love to hear it.
